15 Ramblers had quite an enjoyable day walking the Blackwater trail.  It was such a nice day that we hanged out in the sun for quite a while at lunch.  Soon, winter will arrive.

Hudson Bay Wetland Nature Park – Viewing Platforms #3 and #4 October 2016

Continuing the partnership with the Prince George Naturalists Club, the Caledonia Ramblers Hiking Society led by George Roberts have just completed two more viewing platforms at the Hudson Bay Wetland Park.

Platform #3 is located on the west side of Queensway on the north-side of the channel beside an informal trail, and the #4 Look-out platform hugs the Heritage Trail across from platform #3 and about 70 metres west of Queensway.

TABOR MOUNTAIN SUMMIT, OCT. 23RD

The Caledonia Ramblers will be leading a Moderate (C3d) hike to the top of Tabor Mountain, approximately 20 km east of Prince George, on Sunday, Oct. 23rd. Hikers will help decide Sunday before leaving the trip’s rallying point, in the parking lot behind Prince George City Hall, which route they’d like to take up the mountain. Participants should bring hiking boots, warm clothing and rain gear for this hike, as well as adequate food and water or a hot drink. Bear spray and ice cleats are also recommended. Please meet 10 minutes before the scheduled departure time of 9 a.m. in the parking lot behind Prince George City Hall. The carpool fee is $3.

The Ancient Forest will remain closed to the public Oct 17 to 21 while finishing touches take place on the new parking area.

The Park will remain open to the public at week-ends.

The Caledonia Ramblers will be leading a Moderate (C3d) hike to the top of Tabor Mountain, approximately 20 km east of Prince George, on Sunday, Oct. 23rd. The hike will originate from the Hwy. 16 pullout, on the north side of Hwy 16 and west of the Hickory Wing trailhead (where the boxcar is located). The hike will initially follow the Hickory Wing trail up the mountain. Participants should bring hiking boots, warm clothing and rain gear for this hike, as well as adequate food and water or a hot drink. Bear spray and ice cleats are also recommended. Please meet 10 minutes before the scheduled departure time of 9 a.m. in the parking lot behind Prince George City Hall. The carpool fee is $3.

GREENWAY TRAIL (OTWAY/UNBC CROSS), OCT. 16TH

The Caledonia Ramblers will be leading an Easy/Moderate (C1e) hike along the Greenway trail, on the western outskirts of Prince George, from the Otway Ski Centre south to the UNBC Greenway trailhead parking lot, on Sunday, Oct. 16th. This hike is 18 km long through gently forested hills. Participants should expect a five- to six-hour hike, plus a 1/2-hour lunch break at the trail’s halfway point. The trip will also feature a vehicle shuttle. Hikers will leave some vehicles at the trip’s end point, the UNBC trailhead parking lot, so they can be used to ferry people back to the vehicles at the trip’s starting point, the Otway Ski Centre parking lot. Participants should bring a backpack, light hikers or hiking boots, rain gear, warm clothing including a hat and gloves or mittens, a lunch, snacks, adequate water or a hot drink, plus bear spray and ice cleats if they have them. PLEASE MEET 15 MINUTES BEFORE THE SCHEDULED DEPARTURE TIME OF 8:30 A.M. IN THE PARKING LOT BEHIND PRINCE GEORGE CITY HALL. The carpool fee is $2.

We are sad to hear that our Rambler Friend Pat Kloster passed away suddenly on September 22, 2016.

There will be a celebration of Pat’s life on Tuesday October 4th, 2016 at 11 am at Assman’s Funeral Chapel, 1908 Queensway Street, Prince George.
