DOUGHERTY CREEK/BUCKHORN ROAD, AUG. 20TH

The Caledonia Ramblers will lead an Easy/Moderate (B2c) hike from Dougherty Creek on Scott Road, 23 km southeast of Prince George, further southeast to Buckhorn Lake Road on Sunday, Aug. 20th. This hike will involve a vehicle shuttle. Hikers should bring hiking boots, a day backpack, sufficient water or something to drink, lunch and snacks, extra clothing, insect repellent and/or a head net with hat, sunscreen and rain gear. Hiking poles and bear spray are also recommended. Rumour has it that extra snacks and drinks may also be served at the end of this hike. Please meet 10 minutes before the scheduled departure time of 9 a.m. in the parking lot behind Prince George City Hall. The carpool fee is $4.

MOUNT TERRY FOX TREK, THE TERRY FOX FOUNDATION, AUG. 19TH

The Terry Fox Foundation is once again organizing a Mount Terry Fox Trek up Mount Terry Fox, a Very Strenuous (F6f) hike approximately 285 kilometres southeast of Prince George, near Valemount. THIS IS NOT A CALEDONIA RAMBLERS HIKE. However Caledonia Ramblers have been invited to take part in this hike before and are invited to do so again, this year on Saturday, Aug. 19th. At present, the Trek is scheduled to go ahead, but officials are monitoring the current forest fire situation. Anyone wishing to go on this hike needs to register. SATURDAY HIKE, OLD TORPY TRAIL, AUG. 19TH

The Caledonia Ramblers will lead their fourth of six proposed regular Saturday hikes this hiking season on Saturday, Aug. 19th up the old Torpy trail, a Moderate/Strenuous (C3d) hike, 93 kilometres east-northeast of Prince George. This hike will lead to an alpine lake and mountain ridges between Fang Mountain to the northwest and Torpy Mountain to the southeast. Participants should bring hiking boots, a day backpack, sufficient water or something to drink, lunch and snacks, extra clothing, insect repellent and/or a head net with hat, sunscreen and rain gear. Hiking poles and bear spray are also recommended. Please meet 10 minutes before the scheduled departure time of 7 a.m. in the parking lot behind Prince George City Hall. The carpool fee is $12.

MCBRIDE PEAK, SUNDAY, AUG. 13TH

The Caledonia Ramblers will be leading a Moderate/Strenuous hike up McBride Peak, approximately 215 km southeast of Prince George, on Sunday, Aug. 13th. To access the trailhead, participants will need to drive up an 11-km steep mountain road with several switchbacks, shortly after leaving Hwy 16, so carpoolers are urged to travel in trucks or SUVS, with either AWD or 4WD, if possible. If the weather is good, time sufficient, and the hike leader amenable, hikers may be able to hike to both McBride Peak and nearby Mount Teare during the same day, or at least do some more ridge-walking after summitting McBride Peak. Hikers should bring hiking boots, a day backpack, sufficient water or something to drink, lunch and snacks, extra clothing, insect repellent and/or a head net with hat, sunscreen and rain gear. Hiking poles and bear spray are also recommended. Please meet 10 minutes before the scheduled departure time of 6 a.m. in the parking lot behind Prince George City Hall. The carpool fee is $20.

FAMILY HIKE, FORT GEORGE CANYON, SATURDAY, AUG. 12TH

The Caledonia Ramblers will host an Easy (B2b) Family Hike to Fort George Canyon, 34 km south of Prince George, on Saturday, Aug. 12th. The hike should take about four hours, the total distance is approximately 9.2 km and the elevation gain is about 180 metres on the way back from the canyon. Hikers should bring suitable light hiking shoes or boots, a light backpack, sufficient water, lunch, snacks, insect repellent and/or a head net and hat, extra clothing, sunscreen and rain gear. Participants can also bring hiking poles and bear spray if they’d like. Please meet 10 minutes before the scheduled departure time of 9 a.m. in the parking lot behind Prince George City Hall. The carpool fee is $4.
