Destination: Mt. Trudeau
The Caledonia Ramblers will be leading a Strenuous (E4c) day hike up to a glacial lake on Mt. Trudeau, near Valemount, 293 km southeast of Prince George, on Sunday, Sept. 2nd. plus an Easy (4.5 km one way) day hike up the Berg Lake trail to Kinney Lake, in Mt. Robson Provincial Park, on Monday, Sept. 3rd before heading back to Prince George. Sherry, the trip leader, is planning to attend the Ancient Forest Celebration Day at the Ancient Forest, 113 km southeast of Prince George, on Saturday (Sept. 1st.). She plans to leave the Ancient Forest for Valemount at 2:30 p.m. Hike participants who'd like to attend the Ancient Forest Celebration Day before heading for Valemount can contact Sherry at 250-552-8882 about possible carpooling from Prince George. Participants can also meet up with Sherry at the Ancient Forest and then continue on to Valemount, or can drive directly to Valemount. The plan is to camp on the east side of Kinbasket Lake (free, but no drinkable water!), just south of Valemount and east of Hwy. 5 at the 10-km mark on the Canoe River Forest Service Road, on both Saturday and Sunday nights (Sept. 1st. and Sept. 2nd.). Hikers can also arrange their own accommodations if they'd prefer. If participants plan to camp, they should bring a tent, warm sleeping bag, sleeping pad, stove, stove fuel, cooking utensils and sufficient food and water for two nights. All hikers should bring a backpack, sufficient water, lunch and snacks, extra clothing and rain gear, insect repellent, sunscreen, gaiters, hiking poles and bear spray.
