Upcoming Trip – August 13

tag: front page

The Caledonia Ramblers will be leading a Moderate/Strenuous hike up McBride Peak, approximately 215 km southeast of Prince George, on Sunday, Aug. 13th. To access the trailhead, participants will need to drive up an 11-km steep mountain road with several switchbacks, shortly after leaving Hwy 16, so carpoolers are urged to travel in trucks or SUVS, with either AWD or 4WD, if possible. If the weather is good, time sufficient, and the hike leader amenable, hikers may be able to hike to both McBride Peak and nearby Mount Teare during the same day, or at least do some more ridge-walking after summitting McBride Peak. Hikers should bring hiking boots, a day backpack, sufficient water or something to drink, lunch and snacks, extra clothing, insect repellent and/or a head net with hat, sunscreen and rain gear. Hiking poles and bear spray are also recommended. Please meet 10 minutes before the scheduled departure time of 6 a.m. in the parking lot behind Prince George City Hall. The carpool fee is $20.

For more information, please call Selina at 250-613-6300.

Participants can also camp in or near McBride on Saturday night and meet the other hikers at the trailhead sometime after 8 a.m. Sunday morning. Please contact Selina (the hike leader) by Saturday, Aug. 12th if this is your intention.
