Upcoming Trip – September 2-4

tag: front page

The Caledonia Ramblers will be leading a three-day, two-night Strenuous backpacking trip to Avalanche Pass, up the Dore River south-southwest of McBride, on Labour Day weekend (Sept. 2nd-4th). The plan is to climb 10 km to the pass (about 800 metres elevation gain) the first day and perhaps ridge-walk another seven km to the northwest the second day to a peak overlooking the Kristi Glacier valley. There will be a fair bit of up and down on scree-type terrain the second day and hikers may also attempt a peak to the south. Participants will require good hiking boots, warm clothing, a tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, stove, cooking gear, and other camping equipment, plus food for at least two evening meals, breakfasts and lunches. It may be possible to share accommodation and cooking supplies. Hiking poles and bear spray are also recommended. Hikers will leave Prince George at 7 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2nd. Club members who would like to go on this trip should contact Travis, the trip leader, BEFORE Saturday, Sept. 2nd. The carpool fee is $20.

If you are interested in joining this hike and for more details, please contact Travis at 250-596-1320 or twstringer@gmail.com. This trip may be cancelled if the Labour Day weekend weather forecast looks wet.
