Driscoll-Ancient Forest Trails & Universal Boardwalk – 2005-2013

Ancient Forest Boardwalk Entrance Volunteers Sign Revised 2

Between May 2006 and August 2013, the Caledonia Ramblers Hiking Club assisted by other Friends of the Ancient Forest, have built the 15 km Driscoll Trail, Ancient Forest Trail and the Universal Boardwalk.

These volunteers have made over 400 trips from Prince George at 230 km per trip for a total of over

92,000 km!

A total of over 8000 hours of labor has gone into these three projects.
Construction of the Universal Boardwalk alone took 4 years and 6500 hours of labor, and over 56,000 km travelled.
Sixty tons of lumber was carried by hand;

Three tons of hardware was used to fasten the boardwalk together;

Eleven tons of rock, cinder blocks, gravel and paving stones support the boardwalk.

A great deal of muscle and an enormous amount of heart went into the boardwalk!

To all the sponsors and supporters who have helped in a variety of ways to make the dream of universal access to the Ancient Forest come true – Thank-you!
