Sixteen Ramblers got soaked, but were mostly happy after a hike to the top of Leprechaun Peak through mostly continuous rain July 13th. Although the original plan was to hike up the Grizzly Den trail to the new Grizzly Den cabin, the group met roughly eight people coming down from the cabin perhaps two km up the Grizzly Den trail who said the meadows leading up to the cabin were quite wet and muddy. So the group decided to head up to the top of Leprechaun Peak instead. The Leprechaun trail was reasonably dry and participants only encountered four trees down over the trails all the way from the Grizzly Den trailhead, none of which were major problems. And although parts of both trails were brushy, that too was not a significant issue. As the hikers were maybe 500 metres from the summit, they encountered some surprisingly large patches of snow. It was also fairly windy up top, quite cool and very misty, which meant the usually great views from the top were limited. Hikers who walked to the south side of the peak could see the cabin to the southeast below, but not much else. The return trip to the trailhead was largely uneventful, although a few people dropped into Eight Mile cabin just to briefly get out of the rain. The entire round trip was perhaps 12 km with an elevation gain of maybe 700 metres.
Thanks for leading the hike Tim!
