On Saturday, the Caledonia Ramblers set out from Smithers, British Columbia, to hike the popular Crater Lake Trail on Hudson Bay Mountain. Crater Lake itself is a natural alpine feature formed by glacial and volcanic processes on Hudson Bay Mountain.

The initial 15–20 minutes of the hike are steep, winding through dense evergreens before opening into expansive subalpine meadows. By mid-afternoon, wildflowers carpeted the landscape, offering vibrant contrast against the rugged terrain. As the trail leveled out, hikers enjoyed panoramic views of the Bulkley Valley below.

On Sunday, the group set out to do the Havey-McCabe Crossover. This trail is a rewarding alpine traverse that blends lush subalpine forest, open ridgelines, and sweeping views of the Bulkley Valley. The route typically begins on the Harvey Mountain side, climbing steadily through forest before breaking into wildflower-dotted meadows. As elevation increases, hikers are rewarded with panoramic vistas of Hudson Bay Mountain, the Babine Range, and the rolling hills framing the valley. 

A good time was had by all over the two days, and many expressed their gratitude to Laura and Melanie for leading and organizing this trip.
