Giscome Portage

Description

Giscome Portage Trail is a designated Heritage Trail.  The trail crosses the Continental Divide, which separates the Pacific and Arctic watersheds.  Historically the route was known and used by the indigenous peoples of the area.

Trail Conditions

Update as of Nov 9, 2024:  the trail was cleared of blowdown from the Mitchell Road Trailhead (Huble Homestead end) to the powerline right of way, approx. 7 km of trail.  The trail is currently flooded approx. 1km from the Barney Creek Road Trailhead (on the north end) and impassable without going through water.  The exit option on the power line access road was also flooded near the highway,

Directions

Located 40 km north of Prince George and 6 km off Hwy 97 North on Mitchell Road.  The Northern trailhead is located where the trail comes out at Barney Creek, with a summer parking area located adjacent to the end of the trail and winter parking about 150m up Barney Road and to the left.
