Ozalenka Cabin

Description

The trail to the cabin follows Ozalenka creek, which is crossed several times before coming to the hut. The trail is very well maintained all the way to the cabin 7 kms from the trailhead. There are several trails from the cabin from which can day hike to Ozelenka lake to the south. Or head west and you'll find a fantastic waterfall and pool to soak in on a hot afternoon.

The cabin is equipped with a wood stove, cookware, fuel and sleeping pads. Reservations for the cabin must be made in advance through the Ozlenka Alpine Club @ 250-569-2596.

Trail Conditions

A couple sections of the trail has collapsed into the stream near the start of the trail. Need to be careful when navigating around these sections. The rest of the trail is in good shape.

Directions

From Prince George, take Highway 16 East and travel 201 km and turn right onto Lamming Pit Road (about 7 km west of McBride). Alternatively you can turn right on Dore River Rd located 5 km west of McBride if you miss the first turn off. If turning onto Lamming Pit Road, travel 2 km till it reaches Dore River Rd and turn right. From this point at 6.3 km there will be a slight right, stay right to continue along the Dore River Road. Continue down the road for another 7.7 km till you reach a junction - keep right and travel another 3.6 km till you reach the parking area for the trailhead located on the right.

Note: Porcupines inhabit the area. Ensure that you park your vehicle within the chicken wire fencing to keep the critters from eating your brake lines.
