Yellowhawk Trail, located northwest of the community of Wells, and north of the historic mining town of Barkerville. offers a moderately easy trek through forested terrain that gradually opens into the alpine. From this route, hikers can reach the summits of Mount Murray, Mount Greenbury, or continue toward Mount Waverly. The 8.4‑kilometre round‑trip trail lies south of Bowron Lake.
The climb gains roughly 604 metres on the way to the top of Mount Greenbury, then continues along Murray Ridge toward the remains of an old cabin. Completing the full loop generally takes between 3 and 5 hours, depending on fitness levels and weather. From the alpine peaks, hikers are treated to sweeping views of surrounding mountain ranges, high valleys, Bowron Lake Provincial Park, and the Heritage Highway leading toward Wells and Barkerville.
The trail is popular with both hikers and cross‑country skiers. It begins as a soft, pine‑needle‑covered path weaving under dense forest canopy, crossing tree roots and following a single wide track. Higher up, a series of switchbacks leads above the treeline. Before reaching the summit of Mount Greenbury, an off‑shoot trail branches away toward Waverly Mountain for those wanting to extend their adventure.
Trail is usually well maintained.
