Destination: West Driscoll Ridge
The Caledonia Ramblers will be leading a Strenuous snowshoe up the Driscoll Ridge West trail, 110 km east of Prince George, on Sunday, March 24th. The distance from the Hwy. 16 East trailhead to the first lookout is approximately 2.5 km, five km from the trailhead to the lake and 6.5 km from the trailhead to the radio tower at the summit (Svalbard Peak). The elevation gain to the lake is 883 metres and an extra 180 metres to the summit. How far snowshoers will go will depend on weather, snow conditions and the wishes of the group. Participants should consider bringing both ice cleats (ice grippers) and snowshoes for this trip. They should also bring a day backpack, sufficient water or perhaps something hot to drink, adequate food or snacks, extra warm clothing and gaiters. Hiking poles may also prove useful. Please meet 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time of 7:30 a.m. at the Prince George City Hall parking lot.
The carpool fee is $15
