Destination: Mount Agnes/Groundhog Lake

he Caledonia Ramblers will be leading a moderately strenuous showshoe to Groundhog Lake, 195 km southeast of Prince George, on Saturday, March. 1st. The tentative plan is to take the Powderhouse trail to the Groundhog Lake cabin and then take the traditional Groundhog Lake trail back to Barkerville, completing a loop. The hike itself may take close to eight hours to finish, with an elevation gain of 600 metres and a round-trip distance of 20 km. Participants should consider bringing both ice cleats (ice grippers) and snowshoes for this trip, depending on weather and snow conditions. They should also bring hiking boots, a day backpack, sufficient water or perhaps something hot to drink, adequate food or snacks, extra warm clothing and gaiters. Hiking poles may also prove useful. Please meet 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time of 7 a.m. at the Prince George City Hall parking lot.
