Destination: Viking Ridge

A work hike has been tentatively scheduled for Saturday, September 11 to install a 500-foot boardwalk along the swampy section of the Viking Ridge trail. If we get enough volunteers, the work should be completed in one day. If the weather on September 11 is adverse, the hike will be delayed until the next day.

The work will largely entail carrying boards to the spots where they're needed and nailing them down. There is also a fair amount of blowdown from the meadows up to Viking Lake and if time permits we will go up and cut that out too. Departure time is 7 a.m. from the city hall parking lot but members are also welcome to drive out to the trailhead on their own and join the group later on. The cost of gas to get to the trailhead, 85 kilometres east of the city, will be reimbursed through the grant from BC Parks for the project.
