Fang Mountain

Description

Trail is located in the McGregor Mountains, near Pass Lake in George Evanoff Prov. Park. It is Northeast of Prince George via the Giscome-Upper Fraser Highway and the Pass Lake Forest Road. The trail follows a stream up a steep valley, passes through a notch between cliffs and enters a large beautiful sub-alpine basin. It continue on to the lakes, after which unmarked routes ascend the rim, reaching the summit of Fang Mtn. At 1950m.

Caledonia Mountain

Description

This trail, built in 1980, ascends the southerly ridge to three small lakes where there are many camping opportunities. The summit is 3 kms and 1.5 hrs to the north. This is one of the more attractive alpine areas near Prince George and offers unlimited views.  The route from the bottom lake (Emerald Lake) to the summit ridge of Caledonia Mt. itself is in need of clearing and bushwhacking/route finding is required.

Boulder Mountain

Description

The trail head is located just off Highway on the Goat River Forest Road, about 168 kms southeast of Prince George. The first km follows an old logging road then a good trail ascends through open forest to a bowl at about elevation 1770 m (5800 ft) where there once was a small forestry cabin (at the 6 km mark).

Sugarbowl Mountain

Description

This trail is located about 80 kms southeast of Prince George via Highway 16 and is in the Sugarbowl-Grizzly Den Prov. Park. This steep trail leads through the forest up the north slope of Sugarbowl Mtn. onto a lightly wooded sub-alpine ridge. The summit elevation, 1836 m, is 4 kms away may be reached by easy walking.

At the summit there is a 4.5 km connector trail to the Viking Trail

West Driscoll Ridge

Description

Located in the Cariboo Mountains 110km east of Prince George along Highway 16. The trail, built in 2006, is made up of two trails: the East end trail and the West end trail. A ridge walk connects these trails. Both the East and West end trails ascend through Cedar then Engelmann spruce and subalpine fir zones before reaching the ridge crest featuring an attractive combination of open glades and subalpine fir. The summit at 1803 m (5914 ft) and the ridge walk provides views of the surrounding mountains and Rocky Mountain Trench.
