Caledonia Ramblers Trail Guides

Are you interested in all the hiking opportunities in and around Prince George? Then you must pick up a copy of Volumes 1 and 2 of the Caledonia Ramblers trail guides. They contain complete descriptions of over 50 trails, along with directions to the trail head and trail ratings.

Ancient Forest Provincial Park is Reopened

The Ancient Forest Chun T’oh Whudujut Provincial Park has been reopened as of July 17th to recreational visitors. However the Driscoll Ridge Trail remains closed in its entirety. Fire crews remain on site to contain the fire.

Ancient Forest Provincial Park Closed by Wildfire

Due to the forest fire currently burning within the park, BC Parks has closed this park until further notice. Crews are onsite fighting the 39 hectare fire. This also impacts the Driscoll Ridge Trail and hikers are advised to avoid using it.

Guidelines for Avalanche Safety Adopted

In answer to concerns about venturing into the higher elevations where there is a chance of being exposed to danger from avalanches, the club's board of directors has approved and adopted some guidelines. Please give them a read if you're interested in participating in these types of trips as club progresses along the schedule for this winter.

Upcoming Hikes

The Caledonia Ramblers will be leading a hike along the Summer Place Trail in Pidherny. Participants should bring a day backpack, sufficient water or something else to drink, lunch and snacks, extra clothing and rain gear, hiking poles, gaiters and bear spray. Hiking poles may also prove useful. Please meet 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time of 9 p.m. at the Prince George City Hall parking lot.

The carpool fee is $2.

The Caledonia Ramblers will be leading one of the most attractive alpine areas in Prince George, this hike is rated strenuous with an elevation gain of 968 m and should take 6-8 hours plus driving time. Hikers must have completed 2 moderate hikes at a fast pace before attempting this hike. They should also be prepared for a full fall day in the wilderness. Participants should bring a day backpack, sufficient water or something else to drink, lunch and snacks, extra clothing and rain gear, hiking poles, gaiters and bear spray. Please meet 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time of 6 a.m. Call the trip leader for meeting location.

The Caledonia Ramblers will be leading an easy/moderate hike along the Artwork Trail at Forest for the World on Saturday, Aug 3rd. Participants are urged to bring a day backpack carrying something hot to drink, lunch and snacks, extra warm clothing, and hiking poles. Please meet 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time of 9 a.m. at the Prince George City Hall parking lot.

The carpool fee is $2.

The Caledonia Ramblers will be leading a strenuous (E5e) hike up Fang Mountain, located about 121 kms east of Prince George, on Sunday Aug. 4th. Participants should bring a day backpack, sufficient water or something else to drink, lunch and snacks, extra clothing, rain gear, insect repellent, sunscreen and perhaps hiking poles, gaiters and bear spray. Please meet 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time of 7 a.m. in the parking lot behind Prince George City Hall.

The carpool fee is $20.
